Mould release agents are used to ensure complete demoulding / release of the laminate or moulded part from the mould.
Release agents are mostly used in the form of wax polishes. They are usually made from high grade waxes and Polymers to provide release. Various suppliers offer proprietary paste polishes based on
Waxes and Polymers. Hard, medium and soft grades are available.
Polishes can be buffed up to give a high gloss finish. Normally the polish is applied as several thin coats, each being polished in turn before application of the next. This method ensures complete coverage of the Mould with polish and thus eventually offers excellent release.
Uses of Mould Release Agent
Since every material surface is porous on a microscopic level, adhesives can sink into any piece and cause a problem for part release. The agent forms a molding surface barrier to stop that from happening. It doesn’t have any impact on the tool or component itself besides allowing it to detach from the mold without any problems or damage, which means it can be applied to both rugged and sensitive parts.
Just a few applications for mold release agents include the protection of tools and fixtures, electronics casting and mold coating to allow for epoxy molding into different shapes.
